Named ‘Best Little Town in the World’ by the Chicago Tribune, Strahan Village is an enchanting and scenic village located in World Heritage wilderness on Tasmania’s west coast. The town is a fishing port which was brought to prominence as the home of the infamous Sarah Island Penal Settlement. Today, Strahan is recognised for its unique location, embraced by some of the world’s last remaining temperate rainforests, majestic mountains and the mighty Gordon River.
With a setting right on the waterfront, Strahan Village’s 4 to 4.5-star individual cottages and terraces take you back to a time when the wild West was inhabited by miners, piners, fisherman and their families. The village has a variety of room types, comprising of 141 accommodation rooms including the luxuriously appointed Waterfront Executive Suites, spacious Harbour View Suites set on the Hilltop and the Waterfront Cottages and Terraces with outlooks over the waterfront and rainforest.
Located on the hilltop with breathtaking floor to ceiling window views overlooking Macquarie Harbour, the Henty Room can accommodate anything from a formal board meeting to a product launch, catering for between 10 and 80 delegates.
For a truly unique Strahan experience, why not enjoy a sunset dinner cruise on the Gordon River aboard the Lady Jane Franklin II, brunch at a 100-year-old train station in the remote Tasmanian wilderness or have a banquet ‘Harry Potter’ style setting on the platform at Queenstown Railway Station? You can enjoy a twilight barbecue on West Strahan Beach, or simply enjoy pre-dinner drinks on the restaurant’s balcony with the sunset over the harbour as the perfect backdrop.
Your intimate guided Piners and Miners signature experience, involving up to eight delegates, takes you into rarely explored World Heritage wilderness and shares the story of two feuding Irishmen, a railway through the rainforest and the once-thriving port town of Pillinger. This is a full day journey travelling in a unique Hi-Rail vehicle via the scenic Bird River track with full interpretation of the flora and fauna and with a superb lunch of Tasmanian seafood and fine cool-climate wines, before returning to Strahan aboard the luxury cruise boat, Second Nature.
The Gordon River full-day signature experience on Tasmania’s west coast, combines a cruise on Lady Jane Franklin II with a sea kayak trip to experience the true character of a wilderness river. The cruise boat departs Strahan for the voyage across Macquarie Harbour and into the Gordon River. From Heritage Landing, the kayaks are launched for the quiet paddle upstream. Enjoy lunch on the riverbank before a lazy drift back to Heritage Landing to meet the afternoon sailing of the Lady Janes Franklin II.
